It happened two weeks ago while I was visiting Alberta for a friend's funeral and to see my parents. A rather innocence jaunt down a dirt hill caused me to hyperextend my ankle and now I'm dealing with recurring pain right above the inside ankle bone. It goes away after a day, then comes back after a training run. Last week it was gone entirely until my 36km long run on Saturday when it came screaming back. By Tuesday (yesterday) it felt fine so I went out for my tempo run only to be disappointed by the familiar ache returning. Icing seems to help post run and usually after a good nights sleep the pain has almost entirely left.
As a result of what I think (hope) is a minor blip I'm going to stop running until Saturday (that's a four day break) and just pool run, swim and cycle. I've booked in with my physiotherapist/chiropractic doctor tomorrow to have a look. She helped immensely with my first running injury. I'm thinking we can get this back on track quickly so it becomes a story of a minor hiccup in my Boston Marathon training rather than a disaster. The big goal, lose no fitness and carry on with low impact cross training. Stay positive. I think I caught this issue early enough and have had the wisdom not to push it before it becomes problem that'll cause me to miss my goal race. I'll be sure to update soon.
